33rd Conference on Broadcast Meteorology

5B.1

Broadcast Meteorologists and Capitol Hill

Susan Avery, CIRES/Univ. of Colorado, Boulder, CO

AMS President Susan Avery will introduce the Session. She will talk about AMS’ increasingly effective government relations (i.e., policy advocacy) efforts on Capitol Hill: what it has done; what it is doing; and, the even greater possibilities for a real impact in the future, especially if respected and prominent citizens like AMS Sealholders become involved in the process. Susan will discuss all of this from a special personal perspective, not only because of her involvement with AMS, but because of her own work recently on the Climate Change Research Initiative as a top aide to NOAA Assistant Secretary for Oceans and Atmosphere, James R. Mahoney.
