Low Level winds in tornadoes observed by radars and in situ instrumentation
Joshua Wurman, Center for Severe Weather Research, Boulder, CO
Results from the ROTATE-2007 tornado study, focusing on the combination of low level mobile radar (DOW) velocity observations in the 500 m - 30 m AGL layer in tornadoes with in situ observations collected with deployable instrumentation and an armored vehicles will be presented. These observations permit the vertical distribution of tornadic winds to be quantified, and maps of 3-10 m AGL tornado winds to be created. GBVTD and axisymmetric models are used to constrain the tornadic wind fields based on single-DOW 3D observations.
