Analysis and Mitigation of WLAN Interferences

Frank Gekat, Selex-Gematronik, Neuss, Germany; and D. Rühl and M. Pool

Interference of IEEE 802.11h WLAN networks with C-Band weather radar systems is an increasing problem in Europe. Although the standard requires that dynamic frequency selection (DFS) must be applied by the networks in order to avoid interference the realization of this requirement seems to be much more difficult than expected.

The paper presents the analysis of a typical interference situation and discusses possible consequences for the operation of the DFS. A possible frequency management strategy is suggested. A receiver design is presented which allows the mitigation of WLAN Interferences to a high degree.
