Precipitation Occurrence Sensing System (POSS) and Joss-Waldvogel disdrometer (JWD) data are analyzed to identify the statistical characteristics of the drop-size distribution (DSD) during the Southwest Monsoon Experiment/Terrain-influenced Monsoon Rainfall Experiment (SoWMEX/ TiMREX). In the study, we compare our results with those published in Bringi et al. (2003). The DSDs are distinctly different between stratiform and convective rain regimes. In convective rain regime, the median volume diameter (Dm) and the generalized intercept (Nw) from SoWMEX/TiMREX are 2.03 mm and 104, respectively. In stratiform rain regime, the Dm is 1.22 mm and the Nw is 103.5, respectively. These results are different from Bringi et al. and the possible reasons for these discrepancies will be discussed in the presentation.
