Napoleon III (Deauville Beach Resort)
During the summer of 2009, along with participating in the Significant Opportunities in Atmospheric Research and Science (SOARS) program at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, CO, I interned at ABC 7 News Denver, the local ABC affiliate in Denver, CO. During my participation in the internship I worked through several Colorado severe weather outbreaks, including the early June 2009 tornado outbreak in which one tornado hit the Southlands Mall in southeast suburban Denver.
During my internship I also had the opportunity to volunteer at the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Heartland Chapter Regional Emmy Awards held in Denver. This was a very valuable experience and exposed me to so many amazingly talented people in the news and television industry.
In this presentation I will discuss these activities and others during my internship at ABC 7 News. I will also discuss my overall internship experience there, talk about what it was like interning during severe weather outbreaks, and offer conference attendees suggestions to help them and their stations provide even more value to student interns through internships and give their interns a richer experience.
