58 Value-Added Weather Radar Products for Decision Support

Monday, 28 August 2017
Zurich DEFG (Swissotel Chicago)
Robert J. Dreisewerd, Baron Services, Inc., Huntsville, AL

The proliferation of dual polarization weather radars during the past decade has led to improvements in the detection of weather events, resolution of precipitation types, improved weather forecasts, more timely weather warnings, and improved public safety. While the weather enterprise has benefited from dual polarization radars, we have only begun to realize the benefits of creating value-added weather radar products to aid in the critical decision-making process.

Baron Services, Inc., a global leader in providing critical weather intelligence to its customers through its dual polarization radar systems, value added weather products, weather modeling systems, and displays has focused its efforts on improving radar data quality and creation of highly accurate and meaningful radar products. Baron has developed and implemented patented, innovative value-added weather radar products beyond those products typically provided with a standard weather radar solution. This presentation will detail some of the recent product innovations for winter weather, severe weather, and hydrological events, provide validation of the product accuracy, and the resultant value of the products for critical decision-making applications for government agencies, aviation, marine, broadcast, partners in the weather endeavor and site specific alerting for the public.
