During the winters 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 a Ka-band cloud radar was operated a the airport Munich with a 5 min cycle of RHI scans and low elevation PPI scans for detecting fog. The main advantage of the cloud radar compared to fog sensors which are available on every airport is that it provides the height of the top of the fog layer. A web interface was developed to visualize the cloud radar data for the airport meteorologists. Examples will be shown where the cloud radar data did - and did not - help improving the short term fog prediction.
