Thirty five years ago - on the exact same day - I was hired for my first job in television weather, and had my first date with Cindy! Although we were warned that "those TV marriages never last", Cindy and I have been wed for over 30 years. We thought it might be fun to take a look back at the incredible changes that have happened in our industry - from magnetic symbols and Magic Markers, to High Definition, things are very different from back in the Disco Days. Cindy and I were both very involved with the early development of computer weather graphics. I was one of the very first employees of Weather Central, starting there in 1976. Together, we actually installed many of the earliest TV weather computers and trained several of the pioneers of television weathercasting on how to use these new inventions. We have been through the stresses of new jobs, moves, and raising kids while dealing with the pressures of this industry. Now, our son is following in my footsteps and has started his own career in TV weather. We hope to bring some laughs and provide some insight into ways to successfully deal with family, forecasting and this often crazy and uncertain business.
