The leap from college to local television news can be challenging. New broadcast meteorologists often lack the skills to be successful in an entry-level broadcast meteorology job, or fail to produce a demo reel that can appropriately showcase their abilities for a potential employer. Colleges often lack the necessary programs and facilities to help student meteorologists develop the necessary oratory and presentation skills to secure an entry-level broadcast meteorologist position. Many student meteorologists also often have a clouded reality of what life will be like after graduation, which can make the transition from classroom to newsroom even more difficult.

Meteorologists can become successful broadcasters when the college program and student both work together to nurture confidence and ability. In this talk, strategies for college broadcast meteorologists will be presented. It will discuss ways that students can make the most of college resources available, developing strong broadcasting skills. It will discuss putting together a successful demo reel and how to pursue an entry-level job opening after graduation.
