2011 was a monumental year of weather extremes in the state of Connecticut. In the span of just one calendar year, this state experienced its snowiest January on record, its first tropical storm landfall in more than 20 years, and a devastating early-season snowstorm.

At WTNH, we were able to use conventional and unconventional means to tell the story. Our conventional storytelling methods included computer model data, storm reports, weather graphics, webcasts, and live reports from the field. The unconventional storytelling means include the News 8 Mobile Weather Lab, which is exclusive to the market, and the ReportIt feature on our website, www.wtnh.com/. Multiple pieces of technology allowed us to tell the story from every angle, keeping things fresh and interesting for our viewers.

In 2012, WTNH introduced WXedge.com, the first full weather website ever launched by a local TV station. WXedge has further enhanced our connection to viewers, while also providing our team with a wealth of resources to tell the weather story of the day. In today's presentation, we'll show examples of how each piece of technology plays a unique and important role in our weather coverage.
