The AMS has created a new committee with shared goals of the meteorological broadcast community. The membership of the "Committee on Effective Communication of Weather and Climate Information" includes broadcasters, climate scientists, social scientists, writers, bloggers, users of weather and climate information. A diverse committee reflecting the broad diversity of our sciences.

The mission and goal of the committee are in part to "Foster collaboration between experts in the physical core "forecasting" arena of the weather/climate enterprise and experts in communications to work respectfully and cooperatively for more effective communication with "users" and establish a greater understanding of how "users" incorporate weather and climate information to make decisions."

The recent activities of the committee and future plans will be discussed in this presentation. The support and input of media meteorologists is important to the work, mission and goals of the committee. Open discussion is sought during the presentation and throughout the conference.
