Douglas Hilderbrand, NOAA/NWS, Silver Spring, MD

Weather-Ready Nation is a NOAA strategic initiative to help communities become ready, responsive, and resilient to extreme weather, water, and climate events. NOAA and the National Weather Service are dedicated to improving forecasts and warnings, and evolving to better serve our stakeholders. However, NOAA can't do this alone. For meaningful societal change to occur, other organizations, including the media, are essential to success. Through the Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador initiative, NOAA is formally recognizing and exploring innovative collaborations with organizations wanting to contribute--to take partial ownership of Weather-Ready Nation. This talk will give a basic background, identify benefits of becoming an Ambassador, and sharing success stories for other media organizations to emulate. We are all in this together to raise public understanding of knowing their risk, taking action, and serving as an example to others.
