The hurricane cone of uncertainty has its roots more than 25 years ago, before Hurricane Andrew.  The underlying data behind the cone has changed over the years as has its meaning to the public.  This talk traces the history of the cone concept, its changes, its strengths, its shortcomings, and ideas on how it could evolve in the future.
