The need for telling informative and engaging climate change stories that matter to our viewers and followers has never been higher. As newsrooms fight an ongoing battle with misinformation and disinformation, who better to tell those stories than their very own station scientists: meteorologists.
In this session, you'll hear experiences from a broadcast meteorologist's first year in a new full-time role as a “weather and climate reporter” in Sacramento; a year that included covering extreme drought, flash flooding, all-time record heat, a killing frost and deadly wildfires. Learn what it was like to develop that role from scratch as well as strategies for pitching and turning daily content for your newsroom.
You'll also hear how those stories contributed to a national Hearst Television branding effort called "Forecasting Our Future" in which meteorologists and reporters developed climate science content unique to their particular market's audience.
