Ed Piotrowski, Broadcast Meteorologist WPDE ABC-15 Myrtle Beach, SC, Myrtle Beach, SC

Myrtle Beach is a popular tourist destination with beautiful beaches and fun family activities. Most of the time, the weather is amazing but on occasion, we've had high impact storms from snow and ice to tornadoes and hurricanes. I'll take a look back at Hurricanes Hazel, Hugo and most recently, Florence and their catastrophic impacts to our area. I'll review the F-2 tornado that ripped right through the heart of Myrtle Beach during peak tourist season on July 6, 2001 using dramatic video from viewers. Additionally, I'll discuss the great Christmas snow of 1989...our one and only white Christmas on record! With each of these high impact events, I'll briefly discuss the meteorology behind them. I'll finish with some interesting things to see and do in Myrtle Beach and along the Grand Strand.
