Many cities are located at the coast. The understanding of urban climates in such settings becomes more complex as meso-scale dynamics are influenced by coastal processes. The exact nature of the modification of the urban climate is dependent on scale and location. This talk will present observation and numerical modelling from a number of coastal cities to provide insight into common features of urban coastal cities and influences due to sea-land breeze and mixing height dynamics.
