Sensitivity of Polar Boundary Layer Simulations to Changes in Model Horizontal and Vertical Resolution

PAPER WITHDRAWN

Michael J. Shaw, University of Colorado, Boulder, CO; and J. J. Cassano and A. H. Lynch

A series of experiments have been conducted, using the Polar MM5, to simulate a range of boundary layer conditions observed during SHEBA. A baseline experiment, using 23 model vertical levels and a horizontal grid spacing of 50 km, was conducted as part of the Arctic Regional Climate Model Intercomparison Project (ARCMIP), and allows for inter-model comparisons of the Polar MM5 simulation with the other ARCMIP model simulations. In addition simulations using increased horizontal and vertical resolution have been conducted, and the responses will be evaluated in the context of boundary layer observations from SHEBA.
