Improving the GCOS Surface and Upper air Networks

An up-date of recent activities aimed at improving and enhancing the operation of the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) surface and upper-air networks known as the GSN and GUAN. Significant improvements have resulted from recent analsis activities,contributions from donor countries, and internation cooperation. The networks along with their current performance will be described. Causes of poor performance will be illustrated and corrective actions will be discussed. Future activities will be described. .
