Watch By County: How Does It Improve the NWS Convective Watch Process?

Richard J Okulski, NOAA/NWS, Silver Spring, MD; and D. McCarthy, H. J. Keeney, and W. Zaleski

Over the past decade, the National Weather Service has been working on a Convective Watch Process which best leverages the skills of the forecasters at local Weather Forecast Offices, and the convective weather specialists at the Storm Prediction Center.

Watch By County introduces a new suite of local and national convective watch products to provide customers with an orderly process to track watches from the time of issuance to cancellation.

This presentation will review the particulars of Watch By County and explain how this new convective watch process will impact customers. The presentation will also highlight service improvements as compared to the existing convective watch system.
