John D. Horel, NOAA/CIRP and Univ. of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT; and M. Splitt

MesoWest provides access to weather information throughout the nation, with emphasis upon weather conditions in the western United States. Currently, over 120 different organizations provide access to weather information, including data collected from RWIS stations supported by state departments of transporation in California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. The procedures used to collect, archive, and disseminate these observations will be described as well as examples of how the weather and road state information is used by the Utah Department of Transportation and Idaho Transportation Department.
