Graphical Forecasts For Aviation

Jack May, NOAA/NWS/NCEP, Kansas City, MO; and M. Andrews

The United States aviation industry is moving toward graphic display systems for weather products. As technology improves, so does the ability to improve the creation, distribution, display, and utilization of aviation weather information. Graphics are favored because of their superior ability to communicate information to the user.

The Graphical Forecast for Aviation effort will migrate aviation area forecasts and forecasts of aviation hazards from a text-based format to earth-referenced graphical information which can be 'visualized' on user applications. Such applications include cockpit displays, on-line weather briefing applications, and flight service stations.
