Radar Information Enhancements for the NWS Operational User

Through the NEXRAD Product Improvement Program several radar capability enhancements have been deployed to National Weather Service field offices and more are currently in the implementation stage. The types of enhancements include improving existing NEXRAD products, adding new products which require software implementation on NEXRAD and AWIPS, applying software techniques at AWIPS using existing NEXRAD products, and adding servers to to ingest FAA weather radar data and generate products for display and integration on AWIPS D2D. This paper will describe recent and near future radar capability enhancements from the perspective of the information content, processing architecture, and interactive user capabilities.
