The Recent Increase in Western US Streamflow Variability and Persistence
Thomas C. Pagano, USDA/Natural Resources Conservation Service/National Water and Climate Center, Portland, OR; and D. Garen
Decadal timescale changes in streamflow variability and autocorrelation have been observed in the streamflow records of the Western US. The 1930’s-1950’s can be described as a period of low variability and high persistence, the 1950’s-1970’s as a period of low variability and low persistence and the period after 1980 as high variability and high persistence.
