StormTracker—a web-based tool for working with the automated tracking of thunderstorm clusters
Room 6B
The StormTracker is a client-server tool to expand continued research on automatically tracking thunderstorm clusters, and presenting realtime results to the user. It combines realtime data from GOES, the RUC-2, radar and lightning and provides time series plots of data pertinent to the track being investigated. We used a Java applet client, backed up by a server that is written using Java and Python, coupled with the VisAD Data Model to make extraction of data at co-located points easy. Data are gathered using a variety of methods, including ADDE and OPeNDAP/THREDDS.
