Exploring GIFTS/HES and other hyperspectral data using Python, the VisAD component library, and remote data access
Hall 4AB
The VisAD library provides a unique set of tools for working with data from disparate sources. This application is an evolving high-level tool for scientists to employ for exploring and intercomparing hyperspectral remote sensing data. The data volume of the GIFTS/HES satellites will make remote access via DODS/OpenDAP, ADDE, etc., which subsect the data before sending it, imparative in the future, and we demonstrate the feasibility of this now. While the VisAD library is written in Java, this application is largely coded in Python, using the seemless integration between VisAD, Java, and Python (Jython). Python provides an environment for quickly experimenting with the VisAD library and data, and for creating complex applications.
