Mesoscale features in short-wave moist baroclinic cyclones
Hall 4AB
Maurizio Fantini, ISAC-CNR, Bologna, Italy
A primitive equation model in cartesian geometry and with a simplified representation of moisture effects is used to study moist baroclinic waves in an idealized environment. Simulations are presented that emphasize the appearance of mesoscale features in the evolution of midlatitude cyclones and/or the ability of a saturated environment to support short-scale shallow baroclinic waves.
