The National Weather Service (NWS) ASOS HO-1088 chilled mirror dew point sensor has taken observations for ten years, but mainly due to its high maintenance costs a new version of ASOS solid-state dew point sensor was recently deployed. The replacement of ASOS HO-1088 dew point temperature sensor with ASOS DTS1 in the NWS ASOS network and concern for homogenous temporal climate records prompted this comparison study between the two dew point temperature sensors. In our study, we included two sensors for each verison of ASOS dew point temperature sensors in the field during the 2003 in Lincoln, NE. The performance of each ASOS dew point temperature sensor was examined by comparison to a high-performance chilled mirror hygrometer. The results indicate the variation of dew point difference with the dew point depression.
