Usage of RWIS in New Hampshire for Monitoring Environmental and Pavement

Brendon Hoch, Plymouth State Univ., Plymouth, NH; and J. P. Koermer, W. L. Real, and S. W. Gray

The first 12 Road Weather Information System (RWIS) sites have recently been deployed in New Hampshire as a collaborative effort between the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) and the Judd Gregg Meteorology Institute (JGMI) of Plymouth State University (PSU). Each site provides information on current air temperature, moisture, pavement temperature, surface conditions, wind velocity, and ozone concentration. Data are quality controlled and disseminated via National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System (MADIS). A preliminary evaluation of the system and an update on locally developed display/data access tools will be presented.
