The Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS): Volunteers Monitoring Precipitation across the Nation-the Next Step

Henry Reges, CoCoRaHS/Colorado State Univ., Fort Collins, CO; and N. J. Doesken and J. Turner

The Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS) has been in existence since 1998. It has grown from a small number of volunteer observers along Colorado's Front Range to 2,500+ volunteers measuring precipitation in twelve states. It continues to grow and provide valuable information to many varied end users from the National Weather Service to local community mosquito control organizations.

As we step into 2007 CoCoRaHS has the opportunity to engage volunteers in several new states and collaborate with several new partners across the country. We will present our overarching vision for the network and the exciting impacts that may follow.
