The AIRNow program continues to grow into new regions and support new pollutants. Two new features have been added to AIRNow that will provide broader access to real-time air quality data: AIRNow-Tech and AIRNow Gateway. AIRNow-Tech is a technical Web resource that allows agency staff to monitor, control, and analyze their data that reside in the AIRNow system. AIRNow-Tech allows users to perform queries to extract hourly or summary data; receive automated e-mail queries on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis; and analyze data using AIRNow-Tech's GIS Navigator. Navigator enable users to overlay air quality and meteorological data, compute forward and backward HYSPLIT trajectories, and overlay fire location and smoke plume data. AIRNow Gateway—an off-site, mirrored, live database hub—provides and delivers to researchers and organizations real-time data, forecasts, and information from the AIRNow program. AIRNow Gateway consists of an operational infrastructure that provides AIRNow data in a variety of formats, delivery mechanisms (Web services and files), and update frequencies. This paper briefly describes the origins of AIRNow-Tech and AIRNow Gateway and how they can be used to perform interesting analyses, enhance air quality forecasting, and assist in real-time data assimilation and model evaluation. The paper will also show the scientific and research communities how to access these new data resources. .
