Third Symposium on Future National Operational Environmental Satellites

P2.5

The NPOESS field terminal segment

James Jensen, Raytheon Intelligence and Information Systems, Omaha, NE; and J. Bradley

NPOESS, a tri-agency program, provides a critical, timely, reliable, and high quality space-based sensing capability to acquire and process global and regional environmental imagery and specialized meteorological, climatic, terrestrial, oceanographic, solar-geophysical, and other data products. NPOESS will have the capability to provide direct readout to locations around the world. This readout will be available in two forms, High Rate Data and Low Rate Data. The High Rate Data will be more applicable for fixed locations that are less concerned with antenna size and will be broadcast in X-band. Low Rate Data is more applicable to mobile users and will be broadcast in L-band and will be able to be received by a 1 meter dish. This poster will describe how the Field Terminal system in envisioned to work in the NPOESS era. Information presented via this poster will include:

Proposed Architecture including processing and storage requirements

Concept of Operations of the NPOESS Field Terminal

General Physical Size, Weight and estimated Cost

Availability of the NPOESS Field Terminal Software

Schedule of events for development and demonstration of the NPOESS Field Terminal

Poster Session 2, Applications and Exploitation of NPOESS and GOES-R Data Products II
