The Earth2Class Workshops for Teachers at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University (E2C) continue to provide a model for effective communication of basic and cutting-edge knowledge to classroom teachers for integrating new discoveries into classroom curriculum. LDEO scientists obtain new results every year while conducting a wide range of research about climate and other geoscience investigations which are then shared with the participants during monthly meetings. The E2C Workshops and website (http://www.earth2class.org) enable secondary school educators and their students to learn about such concepts long before they will appear in textbooks or other traditional teaching formats. The program thus aids in professional development efforts to develop highly-qualified Earth Science teachers for New York City, the largest school district in the country; New York State, with the greatest percentage of students and teachers in Earth Science courses in the country; and across the nation. The website continues to provide exemplary strategies for broadening the impact of scientific research, as well as providing curriculum and review resources for teachers and students. We will include results from formal evaluation of the Earth2Class model in conjunction with NSF Geoscience Education Grant 0331232.
