Reusable Content Objects (RCOs) for Science Education
206B (Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center)
The long-term goal of a NASA funded project titled, Satellite Observations for Science Education, is to improve the teaching and learning of the Earth system through quality educational resources that make use of satellite observations. Our goals include: •Creating effective tools and strategies for preparing students for careers in remote sensing; •Promoting and supporting Web-based, remote-sensing learning activities; and •Training students on the appropriate use of observations to address complex real-world problems.
To achieve these goals, a Web-based education environment is being developed to provide students at the post secondary level with interactive learning experiences on remote-sensing principles and exploratory data analysis. As part of this environment, we are developing Reusable Content Objects (RCO) as a strategy to create high quality learning support materials that are freely shared with other educators. This presentation will focus on the development of these RCOs and examples of how to use them in education.
