Advanced Microwave Precipitation Radiometer (AMPR) signature of an inland flooding case in the Dominican Republic from Hurricane Georges (1998)
Exhibit Hall C (Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center)
On 22 September 1998 Hurricane Georges made landfall on the Dominican Republic as a Category 2 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale. This study focuses on one case of a flooded valley in the Dominican Republic as detected by the Advanced Microwave Precipitation Radiometer (AMPR) during the Third Convection and Moisture Experiment (CAMEX-3). The flooding signature is examined to determine AMPR's sensitivity to flooding, and to determine if it could be a useful instrument for detection and prediction of flooding.
