AMS Online Oceanography: implementation and delivery at the community college level
Exhibit Hall C (Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center)
John M. Patterson, Paul D. Camp Community Collete, Suffolk, VA
The purpose of this poster presentation is to convey to others how Paul D. Camp Community College, one of the smaller members of the Virginia Community College System, has implemented and delivered the AMS Online Oceanography course.

Paul D. Camp Community College is located in southeastern Virginia and its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay were factors that we considered in offering this course because so many of our students are familiar with these entities. We were also looking to expand our science department's offerings to non-majors and the oceanography course was one of several that were considered. We are also seeking to expand into the online delivery of science courses and again the AMS Online oceanography course met our criteria.

The college piloted the initial offering of this course by the AMS and has taught it subsequent to that initial offering. We have tried various instructional methods for our delivery mode to non-science and science majors. The presentation will cover our delivery mechanisms and comment on their effectiveness.
