Exhibit Hall C (Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center)
Matthew J. Benus, Purdue Univ., Hammond, IN
Students taking an online undergraduate weather and oceanography studies courses use structured online chat and discussion forums to develop and foster understanding of weather and oceanography related concepts.

Chats and Discussion topics are organized so teams of four students or the whole class can post and respond over a period of 10-20 days. Students are asked to respond to both structured and open-ended questions or statements that can help to develop further understanding and awareness of the nature and complexity of each topic.

This poster presentation will include relevant topic ideas, best techniques for instructor response/mentoring, a sample chat thread, and ideas that do and do not work.
