During the July, August and September of 2006,. Six US students were supported to take measurements in Senegal and Cape Verde during the NASA-African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Activities (NAMMA) field campaign. 5 graduate students and 1 undergraduate student was supported for this campaign with the majority of students coming from underrepresented groups. Students were assigned to work with in the areas of radar meteorology, boundary layer measurements, cloud microphysics and aerosol measurments. In addition to taking measurements, students interacted with fellow graduate students from Senegal and took Wolof classes to gain a greater appreciation for Senegalse culture. This presentation will overview the goals and themes of this project and highlight some of the preliminary research efforts during NAMMA.
