Development of a consolidated global aviation turbulence forecasting system
217A (Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center)
Robert Sharman, NCAR, Boulder, CO
Consistent with the NGATS vision, there is a need for a single authoritative four-dimensional data cube of turbulence nowcasts and forecasts by 2012. The forecasts are envisioned to be probabilistic in nature, to provide various resolutions (regional to global) according to available data sources, and to provide forecasts out to 36 hr. This paper will review the user requirements for elements of the cube, the anticipated schedules, and will provide a WxIPT/Forecasting roadmap of achieving the initial operating capability.
