We examine tropopause temperatures, pressures and geopotential heights in profiles retrieved from Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) occultation observations. Both systems derive temperature profiles as a function of pressure and geopotential height. The two systems provide complementary information about tropopause properties: GPS has high vertical resolution but sparse horizontal resolution, while AIRS has high horizontal resolution but coarse vertical resolution. We describe the relative uncertainties of tropopause properties from both systems, and present a global climatology of tropopause properties.
