Grid-size Dependence on Statistical Precipitation Indices

Kenji Kamiguchi, MRI, Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan; and O. Arakawa and O. Arakawa

Future change in extreme precipitation caused by global warming is a very important research subject. Trend of extreme precipitation is often analyzed by some kind of statistical indices, on observational data or numerical simulations. However, many of studies do not take into account for horizontal resolution of data, though precipitation is not uniformly distributed in spatial-temporal field.

In this study, resolution dependence on statistical precipitation indices, such as “Extremes Indices” proposed by STARDEX, are investigated by long-term integration data simulated by 20-km-grid MRI-AGCM.
