Microphysics in Cloud Models: Parameterizations vs Explicit Approaches
William R. Cotton, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO
In this talk I will review the history of research modeling microphysics in cloud models. It will include both parameterized approaches and explicit bin-resolving approaches with an emphasis on aerosol influences on precipitation development. The work will include Peter's early work on ice multiplication, his modeling studies of CCN influences on precipitation, and ending with his early leadership in the IAPSAG report, “Aerosol Pollution Impact on Precipitation: A Scientific Review”.
