In order to improve estimations of trace gas fluxes in the metropolitan area of Houston and to support the development of an improved atmospheric deposition module for the Houston-Galveston metropolitan area the Vertical Mixing Experiment (VME) was performed on selected days during TexAQS-II. Within the scope of this experiment trace gas flux measurements were performed on the campus of the University of Houston (UH) using an integrated approach retrieving data from three different platforms (ground-based, Moody Tower, Baylor University Aztec aircraft) and deriving boundary layer information including atmospheric stability using radiosondes and a tethersonde system. Trace gas measurements included O3, NOx, PAN, SO2, CO, HCHO and VOCs. In addition O3 sondes were launched to retrieve continuous vertical profiles throughout the troposphere. The new Asymmetric Convective Mixing 2 (ACM2) scheme in CMAQ was used to explain VME observations.
