A prototype ensemble data assimilation system has been implemented at NCEP. The system uses the operational NCEP GSI system to compute the forward operator and satellite radiance bias correction, and either the Ensemble Square-Root Filter or the Local Ensemble Kalman Filter to compute the analysis increment. Comparisons at T126L64 resolution between the operational GSI and a 64-member ensemble-based data assimilation system will be presented.
