Visualizing in-situ data with Google Earth

Google Earth is a popular virtual globe that provides a convenient platform for visualizing georeferenced in-situ station data. We have implemented an interface to Google Earth in DChart (a Web application for visualizing and download geophysical data, http://dapper.pmel.noaa.gov/) that allows users to view station positions in GE and then plot or download measurements from user selected stations in DChart. Many datasets are available for visualization, including ocean data from the World Ocean Database 2005 and the Argo profiling floats program and atmospheric data from the Global Summary of the Day.
