Accurate glacier mass balance depends on accurate understanding of the meteorological forces over the glacier. However, the remote location of most glaciers limits the meteorological observations available. The complex topography surrounding many glaciers can lead to complex atmospheric circulations that may impact glacier mass balance, but will not be represented in the available observations. This talk will discuss the use of the University of Wisconsin Nonhydrostatic Modeling System (UW-NMS) to simulate the meteorological fields over the Haig Glacier in the Canadian Rockies with the goal of obtaining a more accurate glacier mass balance.
