Satellite imagery is playing an increasing role in the identification of small scale convective features. Emerging tools such as the Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation (CALIPSO) satellite and the CloudSat satellite can be utilized to better render finite details of overshooting tops. Instruments aboard post-mission satellites such as the MODIS instrument aboard the NASA Terra and Aqua satellites have already shown a positive correlation between perturbations in convective cloud tops and turbulence observed through EDR equipped aircraft. The combination of space based profiling instruments and satellite imagery will continue to aid in the understanding of small scale convective features. This poster explores the relationships between aircraft turbulence observations and convective features as observed by GOES, MODIS, and CloudSat/CALIPSO.
