Crest Stage Relationships for River Systems in Georgia
Exhibit Hall B (Ernest N. Morial Convention Center)
Kar’retta N. Venable, Jackson State University, Jackson, MS; and K. Frantz
A forecast tool was developed at the NWS Weather Forecast Office (WFO) in Peachtree City, Georgia, to quickly estimate a river flood crest and provide better lead time for flood forecasts. Comparisons were made using historical USGS crest data at a point and a nearby upstream point. Relationships were developed at 31 gauge site pairs using linear regression, with favorable results. A web-based application was developed with Javascript to give forecasters quick access to the forecasts. This application has been implemented into operations at the Peachtree City WFO.
