Water vapor retrieval using LIDAR measurements
Exhibit Hall B (Ernest N. Morial Convention Center)
Hampton University's LIDAR has recently been equipped as a Raman system. In particular, the facility seeks to create a time profile of the amount of water vapor in the troposphere. As the most prominent greenhouse gas, such study is important to climatological research. The LIDAR makes comparisons of water vapor scattering and nitrogen scattering, utilizing 387 nm and 407 nm wavelengths, respectively. A third wavelength, 355 nm, will be used to calculate a reference extinction. This paper will detail the procedure necessary to obtain such measurements as well as current results.
