Tempest, fire and flood—European Weather in 2007
R08-R09 (Ernest N. Morial Convention Center)
Roger Brugge, University of Reading, Reading, Berks., United Kingdom
The talk will present the weather that occurred in Europe during 2007, focusing mainly on large-scale events. Notable among these were the warm winter and spring in many countries, widespread and severe floods of early summer in parts of the British Isles, the Greek fires that followed a heatwave in SE Europe, the January storm across NW Europe that caused significant wind damage, and many more newsworthy events.

Each of these had a considerable effect on both the human and wildlife populations, while in late summer there was also a case of wind-borne pestilence in E England!
