Training optimisation with web based training methodologies for satellite meteorology and related application areas
Volker Karl Gaertner, EUMETSAT, Darmstadt, , Germany
At the latest since the launch of Metop-A in October 2006 and Jason-2 in June 2008 Europe's Organisation for Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites –EUMETSAT- is faced with the challenge to reach users in all parts of the world. This goal can only be achieved in cooperation with relevant training partner organisations at the national and international levels. Therefore EUMETSAT is closely integrated in the relevant training initiates in the field of meteorology and related disciplines. In Europe EUMETSAT is a strong partner in the European Virtual Organisation for Meteorological Training –EUMETCAL- and on the global scale EUMETSAT together with NOAA/NESDIS is a sponsor of the Virtual Laboratory for Education and Training in satellite meteorology, which is a project of the World Meteorological organisation. In addition EUMETSAT is actively supporting the CEOS working group on education and the capacity building working group of GEO.
To be successful in these international training cooperation projects the use of efficient combination of distant learning tools together with a minimum number of classroom courses has to be further promoted and coordinated amongst the involved partners. The talk will outline the benefit of blended learning courses for the efficient implementation of EUMETSAT's training strategy.
